CO2 gas coolers replace traditional air-cooled condensers in refrigeration systems designed to use carbon dioxide as a refrigerant.
In the gas cooler, hot compressed CO2 gas flows through the cooler tubes and is cooled by ambient air forced across the coil. This gas is not liquefied in the gas cooler but rather at the expansion valve afterward. CO2 gas coolers operate at significantly higher pressures than air-cooled condensers.
